Botulinum toxin (Botox)

A substance derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used in small doses in aesthetic medicine for the temporary smoothing of facial wrinkles, but also for more therapeutic circumstances. The terms botox, dysport, etc. are its brand names.

Trivia

The first use of botulinum toxin was in neurosurgery. The toxin stops even the tiniest muscle contractions, preventing potential nerve damage during recovery procedures.

For those who do not want or need the entire treatment, there is also the baby version of the treatment, in which the doctor Nick Manoloudakis uses a smaller amount of botulinum toxin.

Uses

Wrinkles The most common use of botulinum toxin. It is applied to areas of the face where wrinkles appear, usually the forehead, middle eyebrows, crow’s feet. The results are immediate, usually visible after a few days, and last for several months (depending on the case and the care the skin receives).

Hyperhidrosis (soles, palms, face, axillary). In cases where the body produces more sweat than necessary for its thermoregulation, botulinum toxin reduces sweat production immediately, painlessly and safely.

Migraines  Teeth grinding. Botulinum toxin has been a certified treatment since 2010 for the treatment of migraine, as well as teeth grinding (teeth clenching), which can create serious dental and other problems for the person suffering from it.
